Last Night

Last night

Last night, I attended something I’d never experienced before. A Celebration of Life…

It wasn’t a birthday. It wasn’t an anniversary. It wasn’t a farewell. It was a room filled with people gathering to celebrate someone they love… while she was there to laugh with us, hug us, hear our stories, and make even more memories.

Earlier this year, I met this beautiful lady on our women’s retreat to India. Despite not feeling her best, she chose to join us. Not long after we returned home, she received life-changing news. Instead of allowing it to define her, she chose to remind everyone around her what it truly means to celebrate life.

We shared a room in India, and in those quiet moments at the end of each day, I came to know a truly remarkable woman. I saw a woman whose love for her family knew no bounds. A devoted wife whose love for her husband continues long after his passing. A proud mother and grandmother whose face lights up every time she speaks about her family. I also saw incredible courage, quiet strength, and a heart that chooses love every single day.

Last night’s celebration wasn’t about perfection or pretending that life is easy. It was about choosing joy. Choosing gratitude. Choosing to celebrate the gift of today.

As I drove home, I couldn’t stop thinking…Why do we wait? Why do we wait for birthdays to celebrate? Why do we wait for retirement to travel? Why do we wait for “one day” to tell people we love them? Why do we wait until a funeral to share what someone has meant to us? The truth is, every morning we wake up is a celebration of life. Every sunrise is another chance to make a memory, to forgive, to laugh, to love a little deeper, to pick up the phone. to say, “I’m thinking of you.”, to stop being so busy that we forget what really matters.

Life isn’t measured by the number of years we live. It’s measured by the love we give, the lives we touch, and the moments we choose to celebrate.

Last night reminded me that flowers are far more meaningful when they’re given while someone can still enjoy their beauty… and kind words are far more powerful when they’re spoken while someone can still hear them. So today, don’t wait. Celebrate someone. Call someone. Visit someone. Thank someone. Forgive someone. Tell someone you love them.

And while you’re at it, celebrate the simple fact that you woke up this morning…Because today is worth celebrating ❤️
