Kindness Costs Nothing
Today, I want to talk about something that costs absolutely nothing, yet has the power to change someone’s day — Kindness.
A few months ago, while hosting a women’s retreat in Goa, India, I was waiting for lunch before a spa treatment. The food took longer than expected, and by the time it arrived, I was already running a few minutes late. I quickly ate a few bites and messaged the therapist to let her know I would be late. When I arrived, I could tell she wasn’t particularly happy. I apologised and carried on with the treatment. The next day, I apologised again and took a moment to ask how she was doing. Her response surprised me. “You are such a kind person.” She then explained that she was fasting the day before and had not eaten all day. Suddenly, everything made sense.
In that moment, I was reminded that we never truly know what someone else is carrying.
The person who seems impatient. The person who appears distant. The person who snaps unexpectedly…Everyone is fighting a battle we know nothing about. It could be challenges with family, health, finance, relationship or anything in between. That’s why kindness matters. A smile. A greeting. A little patience. A little understanding. It costs nothing, but it can mean everything to someone else.
For as long as I can remember, I have always tried my best to make a positive difference in this world and in the lives of others. I believe in helping where I can, uplifting where I can, and bringing hope where I can. The truth is, like everyone else, I have faced my own challenges and continue to navigate life’s ups and downs. But whenever I look around, I am reminded that there are often people carrying burdens far heavier than my own.
That is why I choose to focus on what I can do for others, without expectations. Whether it’s through my various annual initiatives, sharing stories of hope, supporting someone who needs encouragement, offering assistance in other ways, or simply offering a smile, my goal has always been the same: to leave people feeling a little lighter, a little stronger, and a little more hopeful than before.
I also believe kindness is something we need to teach our children. Not only through words, but through our actions. They learn from what they see. If we show kindness, compassion and respect, they are more likely to carry those values into the world.
Today, my challenge to you is simple:
Smile at someone.
Thank someone.
Be patient with someone.
Choose kindness, even when it’s easier not to.
Be the reason someone feels seen today.
Let’s be the change we want to see in the world.
Remember… kindness costs nothing, but its impact is priceless ❤️
